About

Robert Malovic has photographed weddings, families and portraits on the Big Island since 2007, working from Kailua-Kona and travelling across Hawaii.

How I got here

I grew up in South Carolina and was given my first camera at seven. Later my wife Cat and I were living in New Orleans through Hurricane Katrina, where we learned off-camera studio lighting from a rock-n-roll photographer — the part of the craft that still shapes how I light a couple on a bright Kona beach.

In 2007, after a family holiday on Lanai, we moved to the Big Island. I have photographed here ever since, more than fifteen years of it professionally: weddings and portraits mostly, with commercial work and personal projects alongside.

The two best parts of this job are meeting people from all over the world, and handing them photographs their families will still care about in several generations. That is the whole reason every session comes with the full set of images and a release to print them wherever you like.
